"He who's he?"
Jack rolled his eyes. "Cut it out, Jinks. Ya know who I'm talkin' about here..." He was trying to be as vague as possible, but still make her believe he knew something. "Now I heard some stuff I didn't like. Ya mind explainin'?"
"You haven't talkin ta KittyKat lately have you?"
Jack privately wondered what KittyKat had to do with all this. He also wondered if Jinks was feeding him a line to catch him in what he was doing. But he took the chance and nodded. "I was askin' around. She told me somethin' and I, ah, went from there..." He looked at her haughtily, making her believe he had her. "Now am I gonna get an explination or not?"

"I was askin' around. She told me somethin' and I, ah, went from there..."
"Um....well you see....I um I don't belive you!" stated Jinks he had to be lying KittyKat wouldn't. "Ya lying ya have ta be." she said.
"Now I heard some stuff I didn't like. Ya mind explainin'?"
"Well ya.....um....He didn't tell you he has too big of an ego ta tell anyone." said Jinks then she covered her mouth she knew that would give it away. There were only one person with a big ego and that was Spot. Unless today was one of Jack's stupid days then he would figure it out.

"Ya lying ya have ta be."
Jack was getting answers out of her whether she knew it or not. He now knew to talk to KittyKat if things really got out of hand and he needed to know what was going on. He also knew that he was right in his assumptions. Jack could already read his sister like a book, and he now he was working loose the secret compartment in the back. ((Bad analogy...sorry...))
"Well ya.....um....He didn't tell you he has too big of an ego ta tell anyone."
Jack's gaze snapped towards hers. A big ego, she had said. There were only three people Jack knew who were notorious for their ego...and Jack was one of them. The second one, Blake, he could rule out right away. Blake was too old for Jinks. The third...
His eyes darkened considerably. "Really now? Does he?" He stood up, never taking his eyes off his sister. He left it at that. There was still a chance he could be wrong. Newsboys had egos, a lot of them were malajusted. It could be someone he didn't know. but there was one possibility, the very last one that came to mind, that stuck. And it was that one Jack was really hoping wasn't the right one.

"Um...Jack where are ya goin?" asked Jinks she was too worried. She saw the look in Jack's eyes. "Um what are ya thinking Jack?" she asked as she got up and went to Jack.
"Jack," she said again. He didn't know at first and now she just told him. Things just keep happening. They weren't really orphans more things where on her mind not just her crush on the king of Brooklyn but their father.
"There is something else." she said queitly she wasn't sure if Jack heard her. This was most likely the reason no one in Staten Island could sleep but she's not sure. She just knew that she was surprized when she got a letter in the mail.

"Um what are ya thinking Jack?"
"I'm thinkin' I gotta give this guy a piece of my mind..." Jack turned to Jinks, and had to keep himself from grinning maliciously. "All you gotta do is tell me I'm right about who he is." He knew almost everything he needed to know, and had an almost sure idea of who he would be looking for. But he led the charade drop. He didn't know how she would react. And even if she didn't cooperate, she didn't have to. Jack knew enough.
"Jack...there is something else."
He looked at her. At first he assumed the worst, and his stomach dropped. But as he calmed himself, he thought about it rationally and asked, "What?"

"Promiss ya won't get mad?" asked Jinks looking at the ground now. She didn't feel like getting her brother any mad than he already was. She felt sick right now she felt sick when she got the letter.
"I got a letter in the mail last week." said Jinks her voice stayed quiet. She was really afraid on how he was going to react when she told him that her father got into contact with her.

"Promise ya won't get mad?"
For a second, Jack hesitated. He couldn't promise anything, as much as he wanted to. It really depended on what she told him. But he sighed and nodded. Even if he did blow his top, he wouldn't show it...at least not in front of her. "Promise," he affirmed.
"I got a letter in the mail last week."
Jack's brow creased. "So?" he said. "What about it?"

"Promise,"
She didn't belive him. She knew he would get mad and yell. But it effected him too. The man was his father too.
"What about it?"
"It was...it was....it was f-from daddy." said Jinks backing up a little bit from Jack. Knowing that he would get mad. She stood waiting for him to explode. She never looked up from the library floor she just looked at it like it was sinking sand or something.

"It was...it was....it was f-from daddy."
Utter disbelief crossed Jack's face. "What?!" he exclaimed. "Our father?! You gotta be kiddin' me!" Jack hadn't heard from his father since he was carted off to prison. He had always considered himself and Jinks to be orphans, because as far as he was concerned, his father was dead. This...what was this? Jack thought he was dreaming at first, but he knew he wasn't. "What did he say?" he demanded, taking Jinks by the shoulders. The original conflict was completely gone from his mind, and in its place, this one sprang up.

"Our father?! You gotta be kiddin' me!"
Jinks jumped at her brother's voice. She was shaking she was scared more afraid than when she was pushed in front of a wild horse. Jack took her by the sholders.
"What did he say?"
"N-nothing just t-that h-he's g-getting out soon a-and he w-wanted to get together f-for some lunch or something." said Jinks still shaking. "I h-haven't wrote him back yet." she said.

"I h-haven't wrote him back yet."
Jack's eyes widened. He wanted to have lunch? The man who had gotten himself jailed, leaving his kids to fend for themselves for ten-some years...wanted to have lunch. Jack grit his teeth indigantly, but then noticed Jinks was shaking. He looked at her, and his gaze softened a little. He hugged her without warning. "Quit your shakin'...hey, it's fine, just quit it, eh?" He wasn't sure what she was scared about, but maybe he could help.
He looked above her head and said, "Was that all he said?"

Jack hugged her and she hugged him back.
"Quit your shakin'...hey, it's fine, just quit it, eh?"
"If ya don't want me ta see him I won't. Why are ya so mad anyways?" asked Jinks she stopped shaking. "He's our dad right? So ya shouldn't be mad." she said their father got locked up about she doesn't know how years ago, she was only 3 so she wouldn't remember everything that happened.
"Was that all he said?"
"Um I don't really remember. I have the letter right here." she said and reached into her pocket and gave Jack the letter.

"He's our dad right? So ya shouldn't be mad."
"Jinks, our dad got himself locked up. He didn't care about us, not since Mom died. And I'll be damned if I meet him after twelve years of gettin' along just fine without him..." Jack didn't see why or how their father had contacted Jinks. His centempt for his father eclipsed any desire to meet him or ask why or how.
"Um I don't really remember. I have the letter right here."
Hurriedly Jack took the letter and read it, keeping one arm around Jinks's shoulders.
Dear Mary,
I can't say if this letter will reach you, thought I hope it will. You may not remember me, Mary, but it's your father writing. I know it's been a long time, but I'll finally be able to come back to you and Francis soon. It's been hard to even locate you. Are you doing alright, darling? Are you still with Francis? I tried sending him a letter as well, but I don't think he recieved his. Anytime at all, Mary, just write me back and I'll come to collect you and Francis, and we'll have lunch. We'll be a family, and I'll be the father I never got a chance to be.
M. Sullivan.
Jack folded the letter. "It's crap. All of it. He doesn't care about us. He's guilty, that's what he is. Just ignore it Jinks." Jack pocketed the letter, but was ready to give it back to her if she asked. The knowledge that his father was around, out of prison, unnerved Jack to the point that he was having trouble concealing it. He sighed and raked a hand through his hair.

"But Jack he's our dad." said Jinks. "What did he do to ya that ya hate him so much?" she asked and saw him put the letter in his pocket. "Give it Jack." she said and stuck her hand out.
"I'm still thinkin if I should meet him or not." said Jinks. She tried to grab the letter but he pulled it out of her reach.

"But Jack he's our dad. What did he do to ya that ya hate him so much?"
"To me?!" Jack exclaimed. "You may not remember, but it was all about what he did to us! I was six or seven, Jinks, and you was two. He pretty much forgot we existed when Mom died, and then he decided to join a street riot and kill someone. We was both left alone. Up until you was six I had to take care of you by myself, and I was just a kid! We got separated after that...and the rest, you already know..." he stopped himself before he got too riled up. "Do you really wanna meet the guy who left us as little kids?!"
"I'm still thinkin if I should meet him or not."
Jack had been about to hand her back the letter, but her comment made him pull it back again. "Are you kiddin' me? Jinks, you ain't goin' without me, and I ain't going!"
