"I don't think any of us will take kindly to trespassers, Mike."
Dreamer gulped quietly to herself so that none of them would hear her fear. She was losing her grip on trying to show that she wasn't afraid. Each minute that passed, she realized that her true self was showing more, one of which she was tired of showing to everyone.
She stayed as quiet as she could. If she kept her mouth shut she wouldn't get into trouble as much.
"So you're one of them?"
Dreamer glanced at the boy who helped her then went all "Jekyll/Hyde" on her in less than 30 seconds. She shrugged.
"I guess," she replied truthfully.
"Trouble?! You just caused this trouble! This is your fault," He said as he shoved her, hard. She made him mad, so he had no trouble pushing her around. "I think she needs to learn a lesson, what do you guys say?" He asked, turning around to face Cain and Mike. "She needs to learn that she should never come into Midtown again." He turned back around and glared at her. "I don't know about them, but I know I'm not going to tell you the way back just like that." He came closer to her. "Maybe everything is perfect in your happy little blissful blonde brain of yours, but in this world its not like that. I don't think you understand how the world works. The world is a tough, and cruel place. Midtown is barely a sample of that, if you want to survive then you grow a backbone." He said through clenched teeth.
This guy had pushed her...both physically and mentally. Dreamer's face grew warm. Was she getting angry? No, she couldn't get angry. Mike would enjoy that too much. She tried to hide it as much as she could...
“No, she isn’t worth it.”
"Good," Dreamer muttered under her breath.
Dreamer made a move to get out of their so she could go home on her own. So much for the virtue of men to help a girl out. Even the cruelest of hearts would help out. But she stopped. Mike was coming toward her. Her only gut instinct was to stay right where she was.
“You thought I was just one kid. One kid with a stupid goal. You thought I was alone in my fight.” He leaned toward her, his smirk growing every second. “Well, look around you, Dreamer. What do you see? I see two very devote newsies. And you know who they are devoted to? Me. Not Kelly, not Brooklyn. Me. And you know what else, there is more of them. You might want to tell your ‘leader’ that. Maybe he will bloody take me seriously.”
Dreamer folded her arms around herself and dared herself to look at him. She tried to stay as calm as possible.
"Mike," she started calmly. "Jack does take this whole thing seriously, believe it or not. And I never said you were just one kid...Besides, a part of me knew that you'd get some people in on this,"
Suddenly, Dreamer was pushed up against the wall by Mike. She hit her head against the brick, leaving her a bit dazed for a bit. Not good.
“You think you have got scars and bruises?” Mike laughed flatly. “Well, maybe you should stop and look around you. You’ve got friends, you’ve got a place to stay. So many of kids are without homes, friends, or families because of nothing they did! Maybe you should stop thinking the world revolves around you and your problems and get over it!”
Dreamer gave off a small glare.
"How can I get over it if they keep on coming after me?" she said through gritted teeth.
She didn't care if she was almost blurting out her secret past. All Dreamer wanted was to go home.
"I know the world doesn't revolve around me and my problems, but I have to keep thinking about it so that I'm motivated to stay alive..." A tear started to stream down Dreamer's cheek, but she didn't care. "I'm one of those kids that is without a family because of nothing I did...if you knew what happened to me, then you'd know the reason why I can't get over it,"
“I don’t even know why I bother,”
"...I don't know why either," Dreamer replied softly. "...D-Do you think we can all end this quietly and you can let me go home?"
