As she coughed her lungs out, Dreamer noticed that Mike had gone, leaving her all by herself.
Well, good riddance!
But Dreamer felt lightheaded and tired. Her throat was burning from coughing out the second-hand smoke that had sneaked its way into her lungs. Her eyes were watery with exhaustion from her respiratory attack. She needed to get out of there if Mike ever decided to come back.
"Hel--*cough**cough*help..." she called out weakly.

Jinks was walking around Harlem since she just finished her hanging around with Scamp. She was thinking (about him, who else). She was thinking on telling him how she feels about him. Should I tell him or not she thought she was messing around with her hat, throwing it up and down. If I tell him and he doesn't feel the same way that would mess up our friendship. But if he does then I'd have to keep it away from big brother Jack and he's been on my case. Plus newsies have too big of mouths to tell some people. The only person I would be able to tell would be Dreamer and maybe Mush. she thought and then heard a cry for help.
She ran towards the voice and saw Dreamer! Coughing! "Dreamer!" she yelled "Dreams are ya okay? What happened? Who did this? I'll soak them!" yelled Jinks as she sat next to where Dreamer was. Dreamer was her best friend, and was her first real friend. Sure the guys were nice to her, but back then when she was seven she was shy. Mush and she didn't become friends until after her and Dreamer became friends. Dreamer and she met after Jack and her had a fight. Dreamer was there for her even though they where strangers. They have been friends for about five months. Jinks and Dreamer became friends as soon as they saw each other! She wasn't really doing that well with the other guys. So Jinks stepped in and they became great friends.
They are partners in crime! They have lunch at Tibby's together and stay up past curfew in the lodging house talking about things the others wouldn't understand. They sell three times a week with each other and split the money.
They are like a female version of Mush, Racetrack, Kid Blink, and Chance. Other than it's just the two of them. But if anyone hurt her Dreamer they would be soaked so badly it wouldn't matter if they where in Brooklyn or anywhere else. NO ONE HURTS HER DREAMER! She told that to the guys at the lodging house also, it was a newsie rule.

"Dreamer!" she yelled "Dreams are ya okay? What happened? Who did this? I'll soak them!"
"Jinks?" Dreamer called out weakly.
When Dreamer looked beside her, forcing her head to move, she saw Jinks.
Jinks. Her best friend. Her sweet little sister (in a way).
She looked worried, and once Dreamer realized everything that had happened to her in the past half hour or so, tears came down her eyes.
Breaking down into sobs, Dreamer wrapped an arm around Jinks shoulder, hugging her, putting her head on her shoulder.
"I tried to get back at him," she cried. "I really tried. He--I thought he was gonna rape me, Jinks. He had me pinned down, and he was kissing me. I called for help but no one came. I tried to fight him on my own, but the only thing I succeeded was making myself be more stupid! I wanna go home! Please, take me home. I wanna go home,"

Dreamer started crying on her sholder, Jinks aloud it. She had know idea what happend to her but she needs to find out. Jinks too out a hanky that she had in her hat. "Here blow," she said and gave it to Dreamer.
"I tried to get back at him," she cried. "I really tried. He--I thought he was gonna rape me, Jinks. He had me pinned down, and he was kissing me. I called for help but no one came. I tried to fight him on my own, but the only thing I succeeded was making myself be more stupid! I wanna go home! Please, take me home. I wanna go home,"
"Dreamer tell me what happend." she said "Who pinned you down? Who was kissing ya?" asked Jinks brushing some hair out of Dreamers face. "I'll take ya home but I wanna know what happened." she said and helped Dreamer up and they started walking to the lodging house.
