Calculating precisely where his fingers would fall every time, made sure that the steady beat of his fingers drumming the table was sustained. It was late, and his sister had not yet returned from her "Nighttime Prowling". Calvin was worried about her. He worried every time she left the house that she would be caught, or worse killed somehow. With his unoccupied hand, he ran his fingers shakily through his choppy dark hair. Where was she..?
All of the other newsies were asleep by now, and normally he would be too, but he wouldn't be able to shut his eyes for fear of his sisters well being. He silently prayed that she was alright.
Something behind him creaked, and he jumped slightly, his drumming interrupted. He turned around cautiously, "Grace?" he asked into the darkened room. Nothing. It must have been a mouse or something. His heartbeat slowed back to normal, and he picked up an old newspaper from a day or two back.
"5 HEADLESS CORPSES FOUND ON BROADWAY STREET" read the headline. The newsies had had a field day with this headline. He read the article;
This morning, 5 bodies were found having appeared to have been stabbed on Broadway St. in Manhattan. They each had been stabbed in the back, and then apparently beheaded. They were found with there bodies arched together to form a perfect geometrical circle on the ground. What kind of blood thirsty animal could pull something like this? We believe it is by the same man who has presumable been behind other such deaths. All of which, had been beheaded after stabbed in the back. Further more, the bodies have been identified as a woman, man, a little boy, and two little girls. More on pg. 7...
A part of him wanted to retch and another to jump for joy. They thought it was a man - meaning they had no idea that his sister had been behind all the deaths. He sighed with relief. A hand touched his shoulder. He jumped, knocking the paper off of the table and letting out a little gasp as he turned around...
