Rosemary kicked a sea shell, but it didn't budge. Instead, the jagged edge sliced through the bottom her foot, from her big toe all the way down to her heel. She cried out in pain, and bit her lip as she fell down into the soft, chilly sand, tears threatening to flow...

"...Rosemary dear, the kitchens are near empty and everyone else is out or busy at the time - could you--?" Twinkle was cut off by Rosemary's sweet chuckle and reply, "You know I will."
Twinkle looked at Rosemary gratefully, and handed her the tattered basket that was quite near threadbare. Rosemary grabbed her scarf, and wrapped it around her head, and then pulling on her long, worn coat, she tipped her head to Twinkle and left the whorehouse, Teagan jogging along by her side in his over sized little coat.
It wasn't often that Rosemary got out to shop for things instead of offering herself, and bring along her son - it was a pleasant experience. Of course, it was only pleasant when people didn't recognize you. Rosemary walked along cheerily, happy to be in the fresh, slightly cool air, and to be spending quality time with her 4 year old.
Teagan ran over to a shop vendor once they had reached Oyster Bay, and began to giggle at the little toys they had displayed. Rosemary walked over smiling, and lead him away saying, "Maybe next time..." She was unaware of the eyes watching her and her son.
After buying bread and cheese, Rosemary turned began to lead Teagan down a side street that would bring them to Jones Beach, for she had promised him a quick walk in the sand. She felt a bit queasy going through the little street, where the buildings towered over them, blocking any comforting sunlight that may emerge. Rosemary shivered, and quickened her pace. Teagan was practically running to keep up with her, when he tripped, and fell.
Rosemary stopped, and turned around to help him up. She was unable to though, for at that moment she was knocked down from behind, and out of her blurred eyes she could see hands grabbing her son and running in the direction of the beach. No no no! Rosemary jumped up, swaying slightly from pain that she felt in her back where she had been hit and then ran after them.
"Help! Someone help--Stop that man!" she cried seemingly in vain. The man disappeared from her sight, and she was left alone standing on the beach. Her stomach wrenched with fear for her child and her head began to buzz with pain and exhaustion. She clenched her fists and yelled hoarsely.
If she had remained silent, she might have heard the shuffling a ways behind her in a fight, and heard her son yelling for her. Maybe she would have heard the footsteps coming to her, bringing her child back. But she didn't. So, in her misery, she kicked out in anger. Rosemary kicked a sea shell, but it didn't budge. She cried out in pain, and bit her lip as she fell down into the soft, chilly sand, tears threatening to flow...
Then, as someone tapped her shoulder, she let out a muffled sob, then turned to see who it was.
