History: Joseph and Louisa were having trouble enough supporting their family before the arrival of a second child. Molly Ingram was born prematurely, and was a very weak infant. It wasn't clear if she was going to live, but somehow she defied the odds and grew to a stable age. But the life she lived for was perhaps not worth the struggle. There was rarely enough money for the family of four to live off of, and with the addition of two more children, it seemed to young Molly that her family was sinking deeper and deeper into despair. Her older brother Isaac had to work hard in order to make ends meet, and even then, his efforts never seemed to be enough for Joseph. Molly was forced to watch her father hit her brother continually, and she learned what it was like to feel powerless.
Molly, for the longest time, was blind to exactly how terrible her father was, and was only made privy that she wasn't being taken care of when Isaac would be the one to take care of her, Stella and Jem. Molly didn't know how she could help her family because no one told her what was wrong. She was made acutely and painfully aware one day when she awoke and found that Isaac was gone. Her father's nose was broken and he couldn't remember how it happened. Joseph reeked of liquor. Louisa cried all through the night, and Stella and Jem stood together, defending themselves. And Molly learned what it was like to feel alone.
A year passed, and Molly was miserable. She could feel herself drifting further away from her siblings as they became closer. Her mother cried more and more often, and when Molly was sure it was impossible for any human to cry any more, Louisa always surprised her. Joseph was in a constant state of stupor, and had taken to beating Molly occasionally in he absence of his son. One day, Molly could no longer stay in her broken household, where there was no glimmer of hope for her. She packed up her things and left in the middle of the day. No one even noticed. She wondered how long it would be until she was missed, and also thought how far away she could be by that time. She walked aimlessly until happening upon Midtown several days later, when all her money was spent and she was weak from hunger.
Molly needed food more than anything. She didn't know how to steal, and had no money and no wares to sell. But then, she noticed a scantily-clad woman flirting mercilessly with an eager-looking gentleman in front of Midtown's whorehouse, and realized with a heavy heart that she did indeed have wares to sell: herself. Certain that all her other options were exhausted (she had no skills for a trade, no papers to become an apprentice, too old and too feminine to sell papers or shine shoes), she timidly entered the whorehouse, where the owner, a woman called Twinkle, accepted her with open arms. Molly found acceptance among the other prostitutes, but still found that there were many things she could no longer feel: she felt disconnected, disenchanted and overall, alone.
Hair Color: White blonde
Hair Style: Straight, somewhat stringy and unkempt
Eye Color: Blue
Skin Color: Pale
Height: Average
Weight: Gaunt and malnourished
Clothing Style: Molly owns two dresses, brown and green. Both are worn and tattered with patches at the elbows and in the skirt. She owns a knotted, red wool shawl she wears over her shoulders for colder days.
Items owned: Molly owns a wooden comb she stole from her mother as a remembrance, and a hand mirror, both of which she keeps at the whorehouse. She also has a small beaded coin purse, one of her most treasured possessions. The beadwork forms a poppy.
Troubles: Molly is uncomfortable around many people. She does her job with uniform, passionless duty, and never looks her clients in the eye. She isn't close with anyone, and finds it difficult to feel accepted or wanted anywhere. Timid and nervous, she tends not to speak much when she doesn't have to. She has a big heart, but it's closed off from the world.
Fears: Molly's worst fears have come true: she has been left powerless and abandoned, and her only choice is to sell herself to get the money needed to survive. Venereal disease is a constant threat, and she wouldn't know what to do if she were to get sick. Molly also finds it difficult to engage a close personal relationship with anyone. She is afraid of death, pain, and pregnancy: all of which are potential threats to a girl of her profession.
Siblings: Isaac/Vice (18), Stella (12), Jem (9)
Parents: Joseph and Louisa Ingram
