The children were sick of there uncle treating them like crap so they escaped, they ran away to Manhattan but there uncle found them, he beat Kathrine, but Kathrine and her brothers escaped him, and they didn't look back at him. They were headed to Harlem.
The family collapsed on the foot of the Harlem Lodging House, and out of breath. When they woke up they were in the Lodging House, and when Kathrine woke up she was healing. Now they are all newsies in Harlem.
