History:
When your father is a locksmith in a busy little town in Alabama, and you have no mother to teach you right from wrong, you tend to get into the worst of troubles. Allie Perkins was born in Alabama to her very sickly mother. The birth was too much for the poor woman, and Michelle Perkins died about an hour after. Drake Perkins couldn’t look at his new daughter for nearly two years without feeling the terrible feeling of guilt and grief mixed together. It soon just became a habit, and he ignored her.
Allie adored her father though. She may have adored him into the point of annoyance, but isn’t that what children are supposed to do? He never did anything with her. He never let her go out and play with the other children. He taught her the fine art of being a locksmith, but that was all he ever did with her. She didn’t go to school, though her mind is as sharp as a razor. She was so intelligent, that she began to “learn” on her own.
She would teach herself and broaden her talents with keys and locks. She soon learned how to unlock the locks she made without the keys. She didn’t tell her father, because she was afraid he wouldn’t like the fact that his eleven year old daughter could unlock anything of his. So she kept it a secret.
But now…She could let herself out of the house whenever she wanted. She started to hang out with a group of boys who used her and her “Abilities” for their own criminal purposes. Allie didn’t know any better. She really had no idea that what she was doing was wrong – but she had that gut feeling like she shouldn’t be doing it.
It didn’t take but a year, when her father caught her. He locked her into her room and wouldn’t let her out for weeks – slipping her food in through a small gap under the door. She was beginning to go insane. After three months, she decided she would break out and leave. She would go north.
She packed all the necessities she would need for the long journey north that she would make by foot, and then, one October night, she left. It took her four months to make the journey north, and she wasn’t quite sure where she would end up. She walked by night, and slept by day. Walking by night enabled her to follow the north star.
She began to see signs for New York City. It looked very glamorous in the signs and advertisements, and she decided she would make her way there and try her luck. Upon arriving in the busy NYC, she was unable to find a place to stay. She wandered all night until finally finding an old shed that looked like it had been neglected for years. It was in the Bronx province. She settled in there, and has been living there ever since.
She had been unsuccessful in finding a job – no one wanted to hire a thirteen year old girl, and the factory life did not appeal to her. So, she did the only thing she knew how to do: she broke into peoples houses, and took what she needed from there. That is how she has lived her life ever since.
