Name: Isaiah Robert Johnson
Newsie name: Chivalry
Name origin: He is honest and kind, and well, Chivalrous. Ladies come first before men.
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Birthplace: North Carolina
Currently Living: NY
History:
Isaiah was the second of five boys born to the Johnson family. They lived in a farming community, on their own property and raised horses. Isaiah was raised to be a brawny and tough, yet gentle boy. He was raised right. His mother taught him to be kind towards women and stern with men. All of the right attributes were ingrained into him. By the time he was seventeen, he was very muscular from the hard work he did on the farm, and the pride of his parents. In one year, he would be eligible and pushed into marriage.
The girls in his small town were all very nice and pretty, but they all wanted him. The other boys in the town were jealous of Isaiah's good looks and gentle personality. He had all the ladies attention, and they didn't like that. They began ganging up on him after he would come out of church on Sunday mornings, beating him up after they had him pulled away from prying eyes.
He could have easily fought back and won against them all, but he had refrained. He didn't want to hurt them, because they didn't understand what they were doing. It reminded him of Jesus in the Bible - how he suffered the abuse and eventually gave his life, and in his last breath had said, "Father forgive them, for they know not what they are doing."
So, instead of hurting them, he decided he would leave. His family supported his decision, feeling it was for the best. And so he left, heading to New York to find a job.
When he arrived, he ran into a boy about his age asking if he needed a job. He said yes, and the boy brought him to a lodging house where the process of being a newsie was explained to him. He became a newsie in Brooklyn, and then found a job as a Dock worker in Brooklyn for a bit of extra money.
