ATTN: Nurse Lt. Patty Ridge is fashioned after my great aunt Pat who was a Navy nurse in the Vietnam war, and came home a hero. All that is written here, is the real events and true happenings, about a real person - just in another time and Place.
Full Name: Patricia Danielle Ridge
Newsie name: (Nickname) Patty, Pat
Name origin: Short for Patricia
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Birthplace: North Carolina

History: Patty was born in the country to a poor farming family in a small farming community. She was raised with the bare necessities and had four other, younger and older, siblings. Her older brother, William, joined the Navy and returned home a failure. Her other older brother, Jackson, Joined the army and did not return. He was killed in battle somewhere in Spain. Her father, Rodney, was a poor man with a bad reputation of theft, but he was a good man. Her mother, Annabelle, Was the outcast daughter of a drunkard, and had been scorned her whole life.
When Pat turned 16, she was compelled to bring some good to her family. She decided to enlist in the Navy, lying about her age, as a Nurse. She went through 1 year of training and was then sent off to Spain at the beginning of the Spanish American War. She was kept very busy nursing the wounded land bound sailors back to health in the safe zone of Spain, and hardly gave a thought about her family. One sad day, the safe zone was infiltrated by spanish soldiers and attacked. Thousands of sailors and soldiers were rushed to the hospital, which was infiltrated as well. The other doctors and Nurses could see the Spanish marching to the Hospital, and forgetting about the safety of their patients, fled.
Pat stayed behind with her patients and was taken captive. The remaining soldiers and sailors who were in critical condition were killed, while the ones OK enough to walk were taken as well. She was tortured terribly and thrown into prison. She was the only woman amongst thousands of men, Spanish and American, and they took advantage of her. She was raped several times during her stay. When the war ended in 1899, she was still alive, but very ill from infection and wounded. She was taken back to America, where she was awarded the Spanish Campaign Medal for her act of bravery and individual heroism. She now is recovering in Brooklyn New York.
