The park was just about the best place to take more than the recommended amount of laudanum to consume per given dose. His bottle was three-fourths empty, and he was neglecting his small den.
Oblivious to just about anyone around him- which, presently, wasn't anyone to his knowledge- he was sitting on a bench and was content with his elbows on his knees, leaning forward and his head down.
One might think he was some depressed, lonely man when really he was just too lazy to pick his head up at present. He was currently going in and out, smiling lightly at some of his thoughts in his own oblivion.
Since he'd discovered heroin, he hadn't coughed for weeks, despite the smoke-filled den he owned. It was a miracle, and it was indeed helping the weening of laudanum- they said heroin wasn't addictive, so he shouldn't have an issues after he got rid of the opium. He could focus on becoming a super-wealthy businessman.

Rainey wished he'd brought a book or something to entertain him until he grew too restless to focus on any one thing, or until he wanted to crawl back to his den and fall asleep. The grass and his own thoughts only got so interesting, and he was never a people watcher. People just ended up being a buzz kill.
He felt a presence plop on the bench next to him, and he lifted his head up and over to see who it was. A girl, she was cute. What was it with him and females lately? This one, however, didn't look like a prostitute, though he found himself wondering.
"'Ello," pausing, he straighted himself up a bit. "If yer selling me....erm,something, Ah assure you that Ah don't have the price yer looking faur." A bit presumptuous, but in his experience, money was on everyone's mind.

Rainey snorted, about a thousand sardonic things coming to her mind once her reaction was obviously negitive. It wasn't his fault that whores where all over, and he was sitting in a park, a place where, had he been a whore, he would frequent.
"Well, pardon me," he said, looking straight ahead, dazed out."It's awfully hard to tell, Ah can't help but be surprised. Of course, Ah am relieved yer not trying to jump in my lap..." he paused, thinking about her enjoying the day. "Are hookers not allowed to enjoy the day? Ah'm jist saying...it was a fair assumption."

Rainey was unsure of how to take the girl's proclamation that she was not throwing herself in his lap- either she was being matter of fact or rather rude. Smirking nonetheless, he gave a shrug. "Aye, well, it's not like Ah'd pay faur you either."
She was sitting next to him to enjoy the day. Raising an eyebrow and unable to contain a chuckle, Rainey turned to her. "Oh? Ah'm glad you enjoy they say whilst still in my presence. Ah'm certainly enjoying the day," being that he was loaded up on opiates, who wouldn't enjoy the day? Day were boring without some sort of stimulation.
"Shouldn't a girl like you be...Ah dunno, playing with dolls?"

"Well la de da then," Rainey mocked offense as she told him she could be enjoying herself anywhere else. "Fine, then. Don't let me ruin yer good day, aye lassie?" Well, shit- she could go jump in the Harlem river for all he cared as of now.
However, she wasn't overly bad. She was at least somewhat decent- not a hooker, not some kid trying to mug him or get money from him in any way. Thus far, at least.
"Jacks!" Rainey snorted again. "Ah'm a bit too old to be playing jacks, you know. But in Scatland, Ah was pretty bloody brilliant at the game. But thanks for implying Ah look younger than Ah am," though he wasn't really positive that was a good thing right now. Perhaps when he was thirty.
