Cole made his way down the street, the corner he found himself at over and over again just up ahead. He could hear the sounds of the music from the troubadour that played on the corner, something Cole enjoyed listening to.
Making his way to the bench he sat down, the night was coming fast, the lights outside of the business being lit, making some light out around him.
Cole put his hands in his pockets as he leaned back against the bench. There was a lot on his mind none of which included harlem. No it was his brother, he hadnt seen him in a few days... more near a week. This was usually normal, Blake being gone for long periods at a time, but this time was different.
Cole knew it, he could feel it and he sure as hell wasnt liking it. He should never have come back, but this probably would have happened whether they had come back or not. He was losing Blake and he wasnt sure there was anything he could do about it.... unless...
Cole smirked a bit to himself as the wheels started turning in his head.

Fabel was beginning to get anxious. She tried not to be out on the streets at night unless when with someone, but her hobbling from the injury in her knee had slowed her up considerably. She bit her lip and glanced around, her eyes wandering up and down the already dark street. She could see faint lights up ahead and hear music, and decided she should stay in range of the lights while she walked.
Why was a small girl like herself out and about late that evening? Fabel had been out selling, and failing miserably at it. She had preoccupied herself with telling stories to some young children outside a tavern, and hadn't noticed the lateness of the hour. Once she did however, it was too late to head out and get back to the lodging house before dark. She would just have to walk through the blackness that she so despised.
She came upon some musicians, and paused a moment to listen. As she began forward once more, one of the musicians blared his instrument right by her, causing her to spin around in shock. As she did so, she walked backwards and quite frankly rammed into another body. She spun around, still quite shocked, and said, "Oh! Excuse me..."

The musician was quite good and people were dropping money into his hat left and right. Cole was always one to appreciate good music, or artistry. Hed never wanted to learn things of the sort, but he'd had no choice growing up. He had a choice now and honestly he had no time to indulge into that path again, nor would he try.
One minute he was lost in thought and the sounds of the music flowing around him and the next he was ran into and a femenine voice was saying excuse me. Hed reached out to steady them on pure reaction. At first he had growled a bit under his breath ready to give this person a slight tongue lashing, but when he heard the voice he refrained. True he normally didnt treat girls much differently when he was in certain moods, but he also, believe it or not, was a gentleman. It wasnt something that could just rub off in a day. His mood was solely on his brother not this girl.
"Hmm...'He tilted his head, the light casting a bit on her face causing shadows on one side. Cole was good at faces and even though he could only make out a little bit of her, he recognized her. Hed never talked to her, but he took notice of the newsies that came and went in Harlem.
"Fabel?"He asked. He wasnt sure if that was her name, but he was pretty sure that was the one that hed heard floating around her whenever she was around. Then again it could have been something else, hence the clarification.

"Fabel?"
Fabel glanced up at the face that the voice was coming from and raised an eyebrow. She didn't know who this person was, nor did she really want to. She made it a point not to associate with men who she runs into on a street corner in the night.
"What makes you think that..?" she asked vaguely. She didn't want to give him the impression that she might be the least bit frightened of him, nor did she want him to think that she was some pompous brat. Either way, the vague tone could either imply both or neither.
She pulled out of his steadying her and crossed her arms around her body. It was chilly, dark and she was with a complete stranger on a street corner. Even if things got sticky and she was forced to run, she wouldn't get far because of her knee...

When she pulled from his grasp he crossed his arms over his chest smirking a bit. 'Hm...'He said, "Well...'He tilted his head. "You live at the lodging house... enough said"he explained.
He studied her with cool slightly interested gray blue eyes. By her stance and the slight tone in her voice, he gathered she wasnt easily intimidated, then again he could be completely wrong, but even in the times hed seen her in the lodging house he could tell as well. A lot of people seemed to like her and she was known for telling stories, he supposed that was well enough, some of these kids needed something.
"Its late"He said, 'Care to join me?"he asked motioning to the spot beside him on the bench. "You shouldnt be walking alone right now...'He glanced around. There had been some talk of kids getting beat up at night, recently.
Cole wasnt leader, but his leadership instincts were still fully intact and even though people saw him as this big bad asshole, cole had always protected his newsies and that still applied even now.

'Hm...'He said, "Well...'He tilted his head. "You live at the lodging house... enough said"
She raised both eyebrows at this and looked closer at him. She recognized him after the second scrutinizing, and narrowed her eyes. Cole...
"Yes...I remember you...Cole, isn't it?" she asked coolly.
"Its late"'Care to join me?""You shouldnt be walking alone right now...'
Fabel ignored his offer to sit, even though her knee was intensely pained. "I'm fine.." she muttered, tightening her hold around herself. She wondered how much more he knew about her, and it unsettled her that he had recognized her. She knew he was the former leader of Harlem, but she had always thought that she had been practically invisible to him. Not many people noticed her.

"Yes...I remember you...Cole, isn't it?" she asked coolly.
He shrugged, 'yeah... Guess you've already been told of my wonderful presence here"he remarked in a dry tone. He wasnt sure what shes heard or what she knew, but he was sure it wasnt good. He wasnt going to bother changing that because people didnt listen to people like him. Once they heard what everyone else thought then whatever came from the horses mouth was just a live and they were the ones deciving them.
It didnt bother Cole. Cole didnt really need anybody beside his brother. Unfortunately his brother was the opposite and even though Blake pretended he was fine on his own going from person to person, cole knew he needed more then just short aquaintances.
When she said she was fine he shrugged. "Im sure you are"He said, 'and here I thought crutchy was called gimpy"he smirked. "Just swallow your pride and let me walk ya back"he said. "Itd hurt you far less then walking by yourself"he added.

Fabel scowled at him, but she nodded none the less. She would allow him to walk back with her. She knew who he was at least, and that...Comforted her more than walking back alone did.
"Fine.." she muttered. She didn't wait for him to get up, but she began to limp in the direction of the lodging house, assuming he would just follow her. If not, then she would just keep on going.
((Sorry..Major Brain death..))

Cole held back a smirk when she growled at him. He waited as she finally said fine and then started off towards the lodging house without waiting for him to follow. With a slight roll of his eyes he stood up and headed across the street, flipping some coins into the musicians hat before heading back over to the other side and catching up with her. cole placed his hands in his pockets as he caught up to her, something that didnt take too long with her limp. "So you dont know me, and I dont really know you, so what with the animosity already?"he asked. 'I havent acted ill towards you yet have i?"he asked as they walked. ((Its okay ))

Fabel smirked, "No..But it wouldn't hurt for you to learn some manners." she stated coyly. One thing that she hated was men without Manners. It was something you often saw with Newsies, but there was often that rare Newsie that caught your attention with a few manners. Fabel's mind automatically drifted to Race Track. He had been polite, in a sarcastic way, but had still had manners.
There was a difference between Manners and Charm, she thought. Race Track had manners and Charm, but Cole lacked the manners.
((Ach..I am so distracted..))
