Two years ago, a Midtown newsboy found within himself the deep, pulsating desire for power within his world: the world of newsies. He wanted to be a leader, not just of Midtown or Manhattan, but the leader of all New York City. The newsboy, called Mike, began to gather himself in pursuit of this goal. His desire for power turned his mind, and soon he had blood on his hands. The newsboys ran him out of New York, and made sure he wouldn't return. After a while, they forgot about him.
In 1899, Mike D. Greaser returned to New York City.
You've crossed into our territory...
His approach was quiet: it took a long while for the newsboys in Manhattan to realize his presence. However long is impossible to say. Mike seemed to appear from nowhere one day in the Manhattan area, and for once Jack found himself at a loss as to what to do. He had never thought Mike would return, and now that his friend-turned-enemy was back in New York...
Take caution and care, traps concealed everywhere.
Word gets around among newsies. Messengers go from leader to leader, people from other boroughs trickle in with tidbits of news. Rumors circulate quickly, especially ones concerning the fact that Mike is gathering together a band of followers: people and newsies to back him in his quest. Spies in the boroughs, their identities and purposes unknown. It's impossible to tell who to trust, whether newcomer or old friend... After all, the most infamous old friends in this entire conflict are Jack and Mike.
We know you're here, we're taking our time.
Fights and confrontations ensue between the bitter enemies, Mike Greaser and Jack Kelly. Jack knows that Mike is aiming to take over New York City, and will stop at nothing to get to the top. He attempts to band his newsies together, come into contact with the other leaders to warn them about Mike Greaser's conquests. Jack doesn't know when Mike will fight, or if ever, but he is ever alert, even if he takes little action to begin with.
We like to slit throats, and it's not such a crime.
Little is known about Mike's band of followers. According to the rumors, he's recruiting them all around New York, trying to get more people on his side, bettering his chances of success. However little is known, a few things are for sure: to be in Mike's band, one must be ruthless, determined, and be able to handle getting what is asked of you at any cost...no matter how high.
This is an intrusion...
Mike D. Greaser was never supposed to return to New York. With his followers, he's gaining influence and power fast. The newsies in New York have to come to a solution. Something needs to be done, or else Mike might just get what he's aiming for...
No time for your confusion...
This is no time to stand by and watch events unfold. This isn't just one person...it's everyone in New York. Every newsie will be affected if Mike loses...and even more so if he wins. Everyone has to take an active part. Most importantly, everyone needs know what's going on.
You're done for, no escape...
No matter what, you can't turn your back.
Your actions just sealed your fate.
So whose side will you choose?
P.S. From Mike: Choose your side carefully and have a good reason. PM both Jace and Mike and make sure it is approved. If we already know you are on a side, please post anyway. And for those of you who are on the opposing side, please do not pick people apart. Say for instance, Daphne goes to Brooklyn as a spy. Spot isn't going to know she is a spy and he isn't going to pull her aside for that. He is going to have his guard up (we all are) but even Spot wouldn't be able to tell that she was a spy. What I am trying to say is, do not God the post! Play along as best as possible. This kind of plot is going to have to call for a lot of thinking before post and good communication. Thank you!
- Mike is still looking for the support of some of the New York boroughs. So far he has acquired the Bronx.
- Daphne Manos is trying to win her way into Brooklyn and into Spot Conlon's approval. If she succeeds, it's another goal reached for Mike.
- Jack is promised the support of Jordan Brody and the Queens newsies, but can he get Brooklyn and the headstrong Spot Conlon on his side?
- Bella Harris, Mike's Manhattan spy, is in with the Manhattan newsies. But will her relationship with Kid Blink turn her allegiance?
- Identical twin brothers Chance and Shadow are on opposite sides of the conflict. Chance is content as a Manhattan newsie, but Shadow chooses Mike's side. When Crutchy swears he saw Chance conversing with Mike, who is to be believed?
- Sarah Jacobs is slightly concerned with Jack being so "busy" all of a sudden. But was she seen not too long ago in Midtown...with Mike?
- The Manhattan newsboys catch Mike Greaser on their terf, accompained by none other than Alice Roosevelt, the Governor's daughter! Jack believes he'd kidnapped her; will the boys take action?
- Racetrack, Mush, Chance and Kid Blink make a gruesome discovery: the body of a young Brooklyn boy. Who killed him...and why was Jack's bandana found at the scene?
- Outcast Bronx newsgirl Nellie Lope, Mush's girlfriend, refused to cooperate in Mitch's ploy to spy on the Manhattan newsies. She threatened to inform them of his plot to spy on them, and he silences her permanently.
- In response, Jack taboos the Bronx: no Manhattan boy is allowed to cross into the Bronx, and any Bronx kid coming into Manhattan is soaked. Period.
