Full Name: Francis Sullivan, alias Jack Kelly
Newsie name: Cowboy
Name origin: His lifelong dream is to leave New York for good and live in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Birthplace: Manhattan
Currently Living: Newsboy Lodging House
History: Jack Kelly's history starts in El Paso, Texas. His father, Matthew "The Snake" Sullivan was an outlaw, a bandit who rode with Billy the Kid for some time. He wasn't the most dastardly of the Kid's band, but he was regarded as the smartest. He could weasel his way out of every situation, and he was somewhat highly regarded for it. Of course, in a band of outlaws, the most highly regarded is the one who can shoot a gun the fastest. But it seemed the Snake's luck ran out one day when he came to a small town called Dry Creek, near the Oklahoma border. He and two comrades, Two-Bit Clark and Slim Shapiro, went out looting the town, but the sheriff was ready. He and his deputy, as well as a gathering of volunteers, went to capture the desperadoes. Two-Bit and Slim managed an escape, but the Snake's horse was hit with a bullet, sending him falling and eventually, into a jail cell.
Matthew was put on trial and condemned to the gallows. But his luck turned around when he met Amelia Scottsdale, the banker's daughter, who was delivering a message to the sheriff. Amelia was a sweet, shy girl, six years younger than Matthew. Their eyes met when Amelia hazarded a glance to the prison cell, and there was a spark. She would visit him again, speaking through the barred window, and it was only two weeks before they fell in love. She agreed, on his persuasion, to help him escape. By the time the next morning rolled around and the sheriff returned to the prison, the Snake had escaped again.
Matthew and Amelia ran away together and eloped. They caught a train east and ended up in New York City, where Matthew promised Amelia he would get an honest job, just for her. She got work as a factory worker at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. He would occasionally look for jobs...but would never find one. Soon, Amelia gave birth to a son, named Francis. It was a joke, almost, for Matthew: Francis had been the first name of the sheriff who booked him.
Francis was eight when his mother contracted a venereal disease that not only made her very weak, but proved that she had been cheating on her husband. The disease killed her, and Matthew buried her without compassion, but with an intense amount of love nonetheless. He set out, found the man who had been his wife's lover, and killed him. Matthew was arrested for murder, and because of his previous crimes was thrown into jail for an extremely long amount of time.
Francis took to the streets, and made his living as a pickpocket. He was fourteen when he was caught, and thrown into the refuge. Three months later, his famous escape on the back of Teddy Roosevelt's carriage. He knew he shouldn't risk stealing again, so he looked to selling newspapers. When he was sixteen, the leader of the Manhattan newsies left his post, and Jack Kelly, as he was now referred to as, took the position with his charisma and charm. He's bee living with the newsies ever since.
Hair Color: Dirty blond

Skin Color: Beige
Height: 6' 2"
Weight: 165
Clothing Style: Secondhand clothes, threadbare and run-of-the-mill.
Items owned: He owns his father's cowboy hat, a token from out west. His red bandanna is in reality his mother's handkerchief. He has a paper advertising a new life in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and has kept it with him since the day he found it while selling papers six years ago.
Troubles: Jack almost constantly feels like he's above most of the other people around him. The troubles of other people bore him, for the most part, and he insists constantly that he doesn't need anyone else. His downfall is that occasionally, he does, and he sometimes has too big of an ego to ask for anyone's help. When Jack is upset about something, the world knows it.
Fears: He fears he will never make it out of Manhattan. Although he knows he has roots and friends in New York, he constantly feels as if he could fare a lot better out west. It's in his blood. Privately, he fears being captured and put in the refuge again; and that something will happen to someone he cares about.
