History: Mitch was born into a poor family. Since he was born, Mitch knew he was destined to be poor. He grew up that way. That's all he knew. His life became harder and harder. His father began to panic, afraid he was letting his family down. His mother hated their family and didn't hesitate to let them know.
His mother, Lilian Richards, married Alfred Richards for love. The love slowly faded as the money started to disappear. Her love soon turned into hate. She accused Mitch and his sisters for the lack of money. Mitch hated her mother and she hated him.
Mitch loved his father though, and was devastated when he died. No one knew the real cause of the death. Mitch knew, though. He suspected his mother, Lilian. The evening after Alfred's death, Lilian left. Mitch hoped forever.
Ever since he was fifteen, Mitch has had to provided for his two sisters. Lily Richards, 12, and Maria Richards, 10. They were threatened many times by their land lord. Mitch knew if they didn't get a job that they wouldn't have a place to live. He got work as a newsie for Bronx. Lily got a job in a factory. Months later, Lily was killed in an accident at the factory. Less than a month later, Maria died from hunger and a broken heart. Mitch died that day too.
He moved in with the newsies and soon became leader. Next to Spot Conlon, Mitch is the most feared leader.
