When Mush was nine his mother and brother got influenza, he then had to witness their death. His father tried to stay strong for Mush, the only healthy one, but he came down with the virus as well. A few weeks after that, he died.
The now orphaned Mush didn't know what to do. He didn't want to go to an orphanage and get a new family, nobody could ever replace his parents. So he decided to run away and get a job as a newsie. Ever since then, he's been one ever since and loves his new 'family'.
