History:Everything was going great in the O'Rourke household. Mr. O'Rourke was a successfull banker in Chicago, he had a beautiful wife, and his family would soon expand with the birth of a child, a baby boy to take over his fathers buisness of course. This as all wonderfull, until the pregnancy began to take its toll on the lovely Mrs. O'Rourke. She was assigned to bedrest a month earlier than was usual, and was told she was having not one child, but twins.
Alice was born the eldest and Tyler was born eleven minutes later though everyone outside of the family believed Tyler was the eldest. The twins were born in the evening, and by morning Mrs. O'Rourke had fallen ill. Their father would often sit with his wife before he left for work and when he arrived back home but he didnt see the children much and so they grew up under the watchfull eye of their nannys.
Alice was always the one who sat with Tyler after their father would beat him. She didnt know why he didnt beat her until she began to realize as she grew that she looked very similar to her mother and she started to blame her looks for the fact that she wasnt suffering as much as Tyler although she did suffer every minute that he was in pain. She tried to cut off her long blonde hair once but tyler wouldnt let her, he didnt want her to be hurt.
When she wasnt nursing Tylers wounds and emotions she was taking care of her mother. Her father said it was her job to make sure her mother was comfertable and to look after her. He didnt say it but she felt like his words were meant to say that her mothers weak and sickly state was her fault.
It wasn't until they were 13 that those words were said outloud. Mrs. O'Rourke passed away and that night her father beat her for the first time. It was her fault her mother had died, she hadnt kept her alive and if her and tyler hadnt existed then she would still be alive and healthy.
The children stuck together through the beatings and alice still took care of tyler while she did all shecould to keep from complaining about her pain. They were forced to put on faces for the company that they were shown off to like dogs because they knew if they didt they would pay for it.
After two yeays of this they came up with a plan and together they escaped in the day leaving all of their fancy clothes and expensive hollow things behind. Those things meant nothing to them.
The children roamed the streets of chicago and found that they could make money by selling newspapers. Alice kept her blonde hair up under a hat as a disguise and they managed to avoid the police who were searching for the runaway wealthy kids.
Because tyler didnt talk alice did all the talking and he just stood next to her like a prop. He would hold the papers and look pitiful while she hawked headlines. Both of their methods got people to buy papers and they got by alright. Some of the kids thought that Tyler was weird because he didnt talk and they would often try to start fights and make fun of him. Alice wouldn't stand for such things and was always there defending him even if it meant she would end up with bloody knuckles from a fist fight. She began fighting so well that the kids starting calling her "Knuckles" and she didnt mind people being scared of her because it meant that people left her and her brother alone. She helped tyler learn how to fight and soon he was able to fight his battles alone but she was still there to help if he needed her.
A police officer recognized them one day when it was so hot that alice had to take off her hat for a few minutes. Her golden tresses glowed in the sun and he recognized the two blonde children who with thier matching hair and eyes had to be the same as the picture of two missing children up at his office. He began to chase them through town but they narrowly escaped. They didnt know what to do or where to go but as they walked they came across a railroad yard. Without thinking they stowed away on the first train they saw. They were 18 now and didnt know what they would do when they arrived at the trains destination, New york.
