The heat was agonizing. The ink that covered the stack of papers that Morgan caressed near her bosom could have melted right off the thin, pale pages. Sweat seeped through the light weight dress that clung to her body. Ink covered the tan girls hands, and in the small brown sack slung carelessly over her shoulder, one could find a stack of paper, and the ink pen that had given her the stains.
Morgan walked forward, out of the doorway of the apartment building (which happened to be her own) and into the square, where people were milling about. She was headed for the bench on the other side of the square, near the WORLD building. It had always been her favorite place to work and write. She was able to watch the people go by, and she enjoyed listening to the newsies yelling out headlines (sometimes "Improved") that she had, in fact, written.
Her light blonde hair was tousled by a welcoming breeze as she glided over to the bench and sat down. Despite the stickiness of the warm weather, Morgan was in a pleasant mood. That is, she was in a pleasant mood. At that instant that she made contact with the bench, she felt her sack being jerked away from her. She held onto the strap firmly, catching whoever the pickpocket was by surprise, and turned to face her thief.
"Theres nothing in the bloody bag thats of any value." she said in her British accent. She was cool and confident, no matter the size of the thief. She was not afraid. Of course, the documents in the bag were of great value to her, but the thief didn't need to know that.
"Here's some advice;" she started, still holding firmly onto the bag, "Stop stealing, and get a job." she chirped, flashing a dazzling smile.

Jinks saw a girl on a bench with a huge bag. It looked filled to the top. She was starving and her she was done selling but there wasn't enough to get something good to eat. She ran over to the girl snatched the bag and continued to run.
"Theres nothing in the bloody bag thats of any value."
Jinks stopped and started going threw the bag. All there was were papers. "Ya gotta be kiddin me!" yelled Jinks and trew down the bag. "What kinda goil are ya?? Ya suppose ta have money in ya bag not rotten papahs." she said.
"Stop stealing, and get a job."
"Oh yea! Well I do have a job. I sell da newspapers for the dang people." she said and pointed back to The World building, Staten Island also sells the World. "So ya bettah think next time befoh ya talk. Ya might get ya mouth ripped off." she said and smirked, she kicked the bag back at the blonde girl.

"Ya gotta be kiddin me!" "What kinda goil are ya?? Ya suppose ta have money in ya bag not rotten papahs."
Morgan sized up the girl. A newsie, most definitely. "What kind of girl am I? Hmm, let me think about that.." Morgan replied mockingly, "I'm a smart woman with a job, who is supporting herself without having to act the coward and steal." she finished, smirking at the furious young lady.
"Oh yea! Well I do have a job. I sell da newspapers for the dang people." "So ya bettah think next time befoh ya talk. Ya might get ya mouth ripped off."
Morgan stood up, so that she was facing the girl head on. "Hate to break it to you love, but without me - You wouldn't be selling for the World." Morgan stated clearly, rolling her eyes at the naive youngster. She was the image of a reporter, so whether or not this girl was just plain dumb, or didn't care either way was of no concern to Morgan. She made three times as much as her anyways, and all because she had brains.

"Hate to break it to you love, but without me - You wouldn't be selling for the World."
"Ah an reporter goil." said Jinks "Da person responsible for makin our jobs so hard." she said "Ya know with out us ya papes wouldn' get sold. Dey would just sit there." she said "We make dem interestin so the people can read 'em." she stated.
"An we have ta steel if we don' sell enough of ya papes. We don' make a lot off a sellin papes." she said glaring at the reporter. She hated people who tell the most free people to get jobs. They have the most exciting job in the world. "Oh remembah my brother beat the dang world." said Jinks and smirked.

"Ah an reporter goil." "Da person responsible for makin our jobs so hard." "Ya know with out us ya papes wouldn' get sold. Dey would just sit there." "We make dem interestin so the people can read 'em." "But what would you do for work if you didn't have a paper to sell?" Morgan aske,d pretending to look horrified. "Oh - thats right, I forgot; It's much easier to take what you want when you want it instead of earning some fair and square." she said with a sickeningly sweet voice. "An we have ta steel if we don' sell enough of ya papes. We don' make a lot off a sellin papes."Morgan rolled her eyes, "Now thats the part where you find a job." she stated, sighing. "It doesn't have to permanent - you could carry an old womans groceries! But still, you get paid, earning your money fair and square." she chided collectively. She always had a comeback, and was very witty - there was almost no person that could stand against her for very long before they tired. "Oh remembah my brother beat the dang world.""Ahh, Jack Kelly." she said, glancing off into space for a moment. She had written an article about him and the strike, but the owners had agreed that it not be printed. "I admire him greatly." she said calmly, "It was a great thing for him to do. You should be proud of him, and you shouldn't be using his name just to get yourself out of a bind." she said coolly. It was a dishonorable thing, to know someone so great, and then to use there name for your own personal gain - no matter the relationship. (Ill be back on later. )

She was starting to hate this girl she was all hoity-toity. Jinks rolled her eyes at the girl while she started to talk about earning things. "Yea yea what evah ya say." she said hoping the girl would stop talking.
"Oh - thats right, I forgot; It's much easier to take what you want when you want it instead of earning some fair and square."
"Ya have no idea what a newsie life is do ya?" asked Jinks "Yea we 'ave some up an downs brings a few dimes and a black eye but at least we get ta go where ever we want." she said loving her newsie life. Every day of it is like a new advancer just waiting to happen. "It's bettah than a life of people tellin ya where ta go." she said looking at the girl.
"It was a great thing for him to do. You should be proud of him, and you shouldn't be using his name just to get yourself out of a bind."
"This is a bind?" she laughed rolled her eyes at the girl again. "Ya know ya should just keep ya mouth shut and walk away right now." said Jinks and glared at her again.

"Ya have no idea what a newsie life is do ya?" "Yea we 'ave some up an downs brings a few dimes and a black eye but at least we get ta go where ever we want." "It's bettah than a life of people tellin ya where ta go."
Morgan sighed impatiently. This girl really had no idea, did she? "As much as I would love to give you my life story explaining how I practically lived life with the newsies, and do, in fact, know what its like carrying the banner, I have a story to write." She said pulling her bag back onto her shoulder. "Just so you know, I go wherever I want to. Our lives aren't so different, love. We both work in some way or another for the World, and we both know what its like to live on the streets - The only real difference is that I grew older and smarter and made something of myself, while you are still a child who hasn't found her place in the world yet. I'm free as a bird - yet you rely on newspapers to get your meal everyday." Morgan finished putting her hands on her hips. This girl really had no idea.
"This is a bind?" "Ya know ya should just keep ya mouth shut and walk away right now."
Morgan raised her eyebrows, "Now why on earth would I want to do that?" she asked. "If it really wasn't a bind, you wouldn't have told me to go away. That just proves that your not comfortable with me. Have you taken into consideration that I have been able to get a very good look at you, and now know enough about you to be able to describe you to the law enforcement officers?" Morgan asked innocently, knowing full well that it would unnerve her.
When one mentioned the Cops to a newsie, it was only natural that a glimmer of fear would cross through them. It would be historically incorrect for a newsie to not be apprehensive about cops.

"Yea and only an idiot would threten someone wit the bulls." said Jinks rolling her eyes at the old lady. All old ladies threaten newsies with the dang bulls she was tired of it. "Oh an if ya do have the nerves ta go tell da bulls tell 'em ta look in Brooklyn." she said.
She just hated girls like this. They don't give a dang about the newsies, like all of New York. She knew her type grew up with her parents in a comfy house. Knew her mom and dad. Jinks hated people like that. She knew for sure that she wouldn't ever be able to befriends with a person like that.
She gripped her necklace just the thought of the word mom got to her. "I'M NOT A CHILD!" she yelled loud enough for th whole street to look their way. "An don' call me "love" got it." she said "An maybe if I would of had the life ya had I wouldn' be stuck here but I didn' so stop sayin I should get a bettah job than this because I can'." said Jinks.

"Yea and only an idiot would threten someone wit the bulls."
Morgan ignored her comment, knowing full well that the girl was just trying to appear tough.
"I'M NOT A CHILD!"
"Woah sweetheart, you don't have to get all worked up about it!" Morgan exclaimed, grinning slightly at the reaction she had gotten. She knew she was starting to piss the girl off, and she wasn't about to walk away from that opportunity. Generally, Morgan liked people and was civil to them. But if they were uncivil or just plain immature to her, they had another thing coming. She continued, "I can't be more than 2 or 3 years older than you, but I at least know how to control my emotions, and I don't lash out in anger like a child." she finished.
"An don' call me "love" got it."
Morgan put her hands on her hips, "Alright." she stated, "You really should be more careful of who you decide to steal from though, hun." she added.
"An maybe if I would of had the life ya had I wouldn' be stuck here but I didn' so stop sayin I should get a bettah job than this because I can'."
"Thats where your wrong." Morgan said simply. "Everyone has a choice, no matter how or where you grew up. Though, I will admit, some people are just naturally born with the ability to succeed and others not, but most of the time, people do poorly for themselves because they don't have the determination, or even try for that matter, to make something of themselves." Morgan concluded, her eyebrows raised with an innocent smile tugging playfully at the corners of her mouth.

"I can't be more than 2 or 3 years older than you, but I at least know how to control my emotions, and I don't lash out in anger like a child."
"Yea well sometimes ya have ta get mad when every other newsie leader is older than ya an ya don't feel equal ta them!" she said "So I'd back off," she told her.
"Everyone has a choice, no matter how or where you grew up. Though, I will admit, some people are just naturally born with the ability to succeed and others not, but most of the time, people do poorly for themselves because they don't have the determination, or even try for that matter, to make something of themselves."
"Not unless ya a street rat an always been one. An no one takes ya siriusly unless ya taller then some todler." she said it's true she's no taller than Les and that's saying something. No adult will never take her siriusly until she grows so she can look them in the eye. That's why some people give her the name Child.
