As Sarah pushed herself out the window, she smiled to herself. This was the third time she'd gone out without getting caught. If her parents knew what she was doing, they would be so mad. It wasn't like she was doing anything bad, just going for a walk at two in the morning.
This was the third time she'd gone for a walk, and two of those times something interesting had come from them. Excitement boiled in her veins as she wondered down the streets. What would happen this time? Maybe nothing, but Sarah didn't care, it was just nice to get out.
The moon was out, but was covered by several clouds. The sky was dark and the air humid. Sarah wondered if it was going to rain. Instead of cursing the rain, Sarah welcomed it. She'd never walked in the rain, sure she'd run in it, but she'd never just walked. She glanced up at the sky and silently prayed that it would rain.
She walked down the streets, completely oblivious to her surroundings. She'd gotten careless, letting her guard down. She'd gotten way to comfortable with this whole idea of walking alone at night in New York. As she walked down the street, shoes in hand, she failed to notice the shadow that followed her.
