"Just when I need the money...ya know how that is?"
Mimi nodded, she didn't really enjoy being a newsie, it was okay and she was good at it, but her passion was performing. "Yeah, I know how that is. I just do it for the money, performing doesn't really pay much and I need to survive somehow." She gave him a small smile.
"I am just trying to get back on my feet right now.."
Her thoughts began to race again, "Me too." She stated truthfully. Ever since she left she tried to get back up on her feet, but didn't have that much luck, she had to resort to sleeping in an alleyway. She had to steal for her food, and for her money. Maybe her and Roger were more similar than she thought..

"Yeah, I know how that is. I just do it for the money, performing doesn't really pay much and I need to survive somehow."
Roger nodded understandingly. Being a young kid on the streets was not the easiest thing. Not only did you have to worry about money and where to sleep, you also had to worry about other people and what they might do to you. He could only imagine what it was like to be a girl newsies. He was different from a lot of guys. He respected girl newsies, for they had to go through so much more then guys did. They had to prove themselves to everyone around them. He wasn't quite sure what he felt on the argument on whether girls should be newsies or not, but either way he respected them.
"So, do ya have any siblings or parents?" This might be a little to personal for her right now, but he wanted to start some conversation. He grinned slightly as they neared the park. He loved how peaceful the park was. He even loved it more when there was a pretty girl next to him...

"So, do ya have any siblings or parents?"
Mimi's heart began to race, and her temper kicked in. "I don't care about my parents." She stated harshly. "I ran away." She sighed, "My sister still lives at home, she's thirteen and her name's Cathy." She paused as her green eyes studied the ground. "She's the only one out of my family that I miss." She whispered, trying to keep her voice from breaking.
Her eyes were misting up, she wiped a finger underneath them. "I'm not going to let him see me cry. I'm okay." She thought, trying to convince herself. She stared at a tree in front of her, not even looking at it really, just thinking about her sister. Mimi hoped that Cathy was alright, their parents were harmless, its just that Cathy is easily swayed and would do whatever her mother told her to. Their father was like that as well, that's where Cathy got it from. Mimi got her stubbornness from her mother, and she liked it that way.

Roger's eyes widened slightly as she went. He wasn't a professional on girls, and had no idea how to deal with Mimi and her raging emotions. He glanced slightly at her and then back at the ground. He cleared his throat and replied, "I am sorry to hear that..." He started awkwardly. He looked over at her and nodded to himself. He could trust her and he owed her at least a bit of his family history. "My parents failed me also. They both acted so immature, it disgust me," he clenched his fist slightly and sighed. "I left them and I am now on my own.." He shrugged it off and glanced at her. She looked quiet upset and he wanted to help.
Seeing a bench nearby, he put his hand on her shoulder and looked at her hard, "Lets sit down, okay?"

"I left them and I am now on my own.."
Mimi glanced up at him and nodded, "Me too." She murmured. She coughed slightly, "I'm uh, sorry for going off like that...its not often that I tell other people about that, and I don't like thinking about it." She shrugged, not really wanting him to think it was a huge deal with her, even though it was.
"Lets sit down, okay?"
She smiled, and nodded. "Okay." She tried to brush her past emotions off, she was with Roger now, and didn't want to spoil their evening.
((Sorry for the shortness!))

"I'm uh, sorry for going off like that...its not often that I tell other people about that, and I don't like thinking about it."
Roger grinned a genuine grin. It made him feel good that she would trust him enough to tell him stuff she doesn't usually tell other people. He was almost beaming at her. He tried to hide it, not wanting her to think that he was making fun of her or anything. "It is fine!" He replied quickly, almost to quickly. He covered it up with a cough and looked down. It suddenly got very awkward and he popped his neck as a nervous habit.
Roger couldn't help but smile as she smiled. It filled him with warmth to see her smile. He hated to rid her of the smile, but he was curious. "Do you.. uh.. wanna talk about it?" He asked as they both sat down.

"Do you.. uh.. wanna talk about it?"
Mimi stared at the ground, not really sure how to respond. She just met him, and already he basically knew her whole life's story. She didn't want to revisit the pain that she's been dealing with. Almost everybody told her not to keep her pain inside, but to share her emotions with others. Mimi wasn't like that, she liked keeping everything inside, not letting anybody else know what was wrong with her. It wasn't their business anyways, it was hers and hers alone.
She pulled away from her thoughts to glance back up at him and shake her head sadly, "No..not now." She looked into his hazel eyes for a minute and then looked back down at the ground. She wasn't ready to talk to him about this yet..

Roger winced as she started to look uncomfortable. He shouldn't have asked that, they just met after all. He just didn't like seeing her upset. He licked his lips and turned away from her. They both were now facing the park. His gaze wondered all over the park and he took everything in. Their were people everywhere, but they seemed unimportant to him right now. He glanced over at the girl next to him and waited for her answer.
No...not now."
When she did answer, he wasn't surprised. She didn't want to talk about it, and he wouldn't want to either. He wasn't going to push her and he wanted her to know that. "I understand. I am here for you, though. I know we just met, but... well.. yeah," He wanted to tell her that he felt something weird when they talked and when he was with her, but didn't want to freak her out. He rubbed the back of his neck as the tension seemed to grow. He watched her out of the corner of his eyes and waited for her to speak.

"I understand. I am here for you, though. I know we just met, but... well.. yeah,"
Mimi nodded and gave him a grateful smile. She did want to tell him and to trust him, but her logical side was telling her, "No, you'll only get hurt--again." She sighed, this was probably the only time she'd give into her logical side. She glanced over at Roger, not really knowing what to say. There was an awkward tension between them, and she didn't know how to deal with it.
"So uh..." She began, looking over at him. "About this weather?" She said, chuckling a little bit trying to break the ice that somehow formed between them. She bit her bottom lip, and gave him a sheepish smile.

"So uh...About this weather?"
Roger glanced at her and raised his eyebrows at her. He chuckled and looked back toward to park. "Yeah, it's.. uh... nice?" He replied quietly. He sighed and swallowed hard. All this talk about the past made him think about his. He had always tried to block it off, but being with this girl made something in him want to talk and let it all out. He scolded himself on being so vulnerable and trusting. He had just me this girl, and he should not trust her with anything.
He quickly put on an emotionless face and turned to her. "So, what do you wanna do?" He tried to direct the conversation away from their past. It was best for both of them, he thought. They were alike in so many ways, from what he could tell.

"Yeah, it's.. uh... nice?"
Mimi smiled as she pushed a lock of hair behind her ear. "I don't really like summer that much, its too hot. I like spring a lot better." She thought it was really pathetic to be sitting on a bench in a park, on a nice day, and be talking about the weather."Whatever keeps us away from the other topic." She thought.
"So, what do you wanna do?"
She shrugged, "I don't care, whatever you want to do." Mimi honestly didn't mind what they would do, as long as she was with Roger she'd be fine. As sappy as it sounded it was the truth.

"I don't really like summer that much, its too hot. I like spring a lot better."
Roger nodded and kept a straight face on. This was such an awkward subject and he didn't want it to continue. He didn't reply, but simply nodded. He leaned on his knees and continued to look out. He wasn't trying to ignore her or anything, but just wasn't talking. He shrugged and leaned back on the bench. He put his hand behind his head and closed his eyes.
"I don't care, whatever you want to do."
He cocked his head to the side and opened one eye to look at her. "Your not very good at making decisions are you?" He smiled mischievously at her. He was tired of being all sad and glum. He wanted to have some fun with his new friend. His faced beamed at the thought.

Mimi sighed and glanced over at him, she wasn't feeling very comfortable anymore. She watched as he leaned back on the bench and closed his eyes, a devilish smirk crept onto her face. She leaned over to him and poked his stomach, "You're not fallin' asleep on me!" She declared smiling at him.
"Your not very good at making decisions are you?"
She smiled and shook her head, "No, I'm not. Since you're the gentleman I think you should be the one making the decisions." She shrugged, "But that's just me." She smiled, wondering what his response would be to that.

"You're not fallin' asleep on me!" He grunted as she poked him. He laughed and rubbed his stomach, "Dangit woman, that hurt..." He looked at her and smirked slightly, with a mock hurt expression on his face. His eye searched hers and he smirked wickedly, "Oh, your gonna get it now..." He lunged at her and started to tickle her, hoping she was ticklish. "No, I'm not. Since you're the gentleman I think you should be the one making the decisions. But that's just me."He grinned and looked at her with a twinkle in his eyes. Even the smallest comment like this made him like her all the more. She was witty and funny and just nice all around. And to top it all off, she was beautiful. He realized he had been staring and shook his head, "Uh, why don't we go... uh... I don't know!" He threw is hands up in frustration. He really didn't know what to do, and his mind was fuzzy from looking at her for too long. ((that sounds like something Star would say! I think you have been hanging out with her for too long... Love you Star! ))

"Oh, your gonna get it now..."Mimi's eyes widened as he started to tickle her, "No! Don't!" She exclaimed. Somehow he knew her tickilish areas. She laughed and gasped for air, trying to push him off of her, unfortunantly he was bigger and stronger than her and she was left merciless. "Uh, why don't we go... uh... I don't know!"She laughed, "Well don't hurt yourself!" She said with a smile, "Why don't we go um...to the river?" She suggested with a shrug. "Its a nice day, or we could just stay here and talk about the weather." She glanced over at him and grinned. ((Haha! Haven't we all Roger? ))
