Roger made his way through the crowd, scowling as he got pushed aside by a man in a hurry. Ignoring the desire to punch the guy, he continued on his journey. He finally reached his destination and stopped in front of the building. He clenched his fist and took a deep breath. If he was going to work all day today, he was defiantly going to have to have patience.
He pushed open the doors of Johnson's, with a small smile playing at his lips. He was feeling better now and was ready to work. Yelling a "Goodmornin'!" to his boss, he grabbed his apron and started to wipe down the counters.
He glanced up as the bell above the door chimed, announcing the presence of a customer. He did a double take as a young lady walked in. She was cute, and being the guy that he was, he smirked. Throwing down the wash cloth, he yelled to his boss. "I got this one!" He leaned over and grabbed a note pad and made his way toward the girl.
He wasn't the cutest guy in New York, but he defiantly had his features. He also wasn't much of a flirt, but he loved to see how girls would react to him. Some would just throw themselves at him and he found that hilarious. Did they actually think he was going to give them the time of day. He was curious as to what this young lady would do.
"So, what can I get 'cha?" He smirked charmingly at her.

It was around noon when Mimi walked into the doors of Johnson's, she was near starved. Her stomach was growling, it did help for selling, people took pity on her, but it made her feel awful. She rolled her eyes when the belled chimed, signaling that someone was in. She looked around and sat down at a table near the window. She hadn't been waiting long before a waitor came by.
"So, what can I get 'cha?"
She looked up at the blonde man that was smirking at her. Mimi smiled, "I'll have a um," She paused, not fully knowing what she wanted to eat, right about now anything sounded good to her. She bit her lip and fiddled with her gold chain before she decided. "I'll have a hot dog with a coke." She said, smiling up at him.

He wrote down her order and smiled up at her. "It'll be right out." He turned on his heel and made his way to the counter. He grabbed the rag and started to wipe the counters some more. Every once in awhile he would glance up at the girl. He could tell she was a newsie, by the way she dressed. Wondering why he had never seen her before, he made his way to wards her.
Turning around quickly, he made his way back to the kitchen. He needed an excuse for going back to her table. Grabbing her soda, he grinned at his boss and started for her table again. Swerving through the tables smoothly, he reached her table in no time. Setting down the glass, he smiled warmly at her. "Do ya mind if I sit? We're not busy, and I was bored, and ya looked lonely and I..." He stopped, realizing he was rambling. "Yeah.." He laughed and took a seat across from her.
"So, I couldn't help but notice that ya dress like a newsie?" It was more of a question then anything.

Mimi shot him a grateful smile as he walked away, he was cute, she'll admit that. She looked out the window watching the people walk by, her slender hands played with her dark brown curls. She watched as a rather fat buisness man walked around, looking for something; she guessed it was his hat. She watched as he looked confused, and distressed before she saw two newsboys hiding behind a crate holding his hat. She couldn't help but laugh at that.
"Do ya mind if I sit? We're not busy, and I was bored, and ya looked lonely and I...Yeah"
She returned his warm smile, "No, I don't mind and yeah, I am lonely. My friend ditched me this morning, so I'm on my own until tonight." She shrugged and chuckled.
"So, I couldn't help but notice that ya dress like a newsie?"
Mimi took a sip of her drink, nodding. "Mhmm, I'm a newsie. Just started a few weeks ago."

He chuckled and nodded. "Doesn't it feel great to be the third wheel?" He raised his eyebrows at her and smirked. He knew exactly how she felt. Many a time he been pushed a side for a girl. Or maybe he had been the only one without a girl. Whichever it was, he usually felt a little out of place. He had met a lot of nice girls, but had never truly opened up to them. He never learned how to trust anyone with his heart after his parents.
He sighed and shook his head, trying to rid his mind of these thoughts. It was all in the past now, and he could forget and move on. Looking back at her, he grinned. "Me too, but only when needed." He sold the evening edition sometimes, when he needed money. It wasn't the greatest pay, but it worked.
Glancing toward the window, he realized he had to get back to work. Sighing, he looked back at her. For some reason he was actually enjoying talking to her and hated to end it. He slid out of the booth and stood up awkwardly, "I gotta get back to work now, but I would like to talk to you further....if ya want?" He rubbed the back of his neck and shifted his weight to his other foot.

Mimi smiled, "Oh its the best feeling in the world." She replied sarcastically. "I've been the third wheel one too many times, but I'd rather be the third wheel than be all alone." She folded her hands on the table, she didn't like being all by herself, and yet she lived on her own for two years with no problems. That's one of the mysteries she knew she'd never figure out about herself.
She raised her eyebrows, "Oh really?" Her bright green eyes studied him for a moment, she's never seen him before. "What borough are you?" She asked. She guessed that he was either Harlem or Brooklyn, maybe even Staten or Long Island. She didn't know.
"I gotta get back to work now, but I would like to talk to you further....if ya want?"
She smiled, "Sure...I'd like that."

"Sure...I'd like that."
A genuine smile spread across Roger's face. He nodded and replied, "So, uh meet me here at 3? That's when I get off work..." He trailed off and smiled, wider if possible. "I'll be waiting for you." He winked at her and turned on his heel.
He was halfway to the counter when he stopped abruptly and turned quickly around. He made his way back to Mimi, with a goofy grin on his face. "I, uh never got your name.." He smiled sheepishly at her. "I'm Roger," he stuck out his hand for her.

Mimi smiled, "Sure, three works for me." She felt excited now, not really sure what was going to happen. She made a mental note to hurry up with the rest of her selling, she didn't have much left to sell, but it was a hot day and nobody would be outside.
She looked up when he came back to her table, and smiled, there was something about him that made her smile. She didn't know what it was...
"I'm Roger,"
She shook his hand, "They call me Mimi."

"They call me Mimi."
Roger smirked slightly and shook her hand firmly. Not letting go her replied, "See you around 3 then?" He raised his eyebrows and placed a light kiss on her hand. Letting it go quickly he turned and got back to work. He kept his eyes on her though, watching her reaction to the kiss. He wasn't sure if that was pushing it. She didn't seem like they kind to flirt, but he was just being gentlemanly.
Though out the day he couldn't stop thinking about Mimi. He smirked slightly at how silly he sounded. He guessed he was just glad for a friend. He had never really trusted anyone, and he still didn't. But he wanted to have friends and he thought this was a fine way to start.
At three O'Clock he threw off his apron, yelled a goodbye to his boss, and ran out the door. He ran into Mimi on his way out, nearly knocking them both over. He grabbed her shoulders to steady both of them. "Oh! Sorry, are you okay?" His eyes shown with concern that he might of hurt her.

"See you around 3 then?"
Mimi nodded, and smiled when he kissed her hand. Maybe he was flirting? Maybe he wasn't? She didn't know, she never could tell unless it was over-the-top. She nodded a quick goodbye to him and left Johnson's. The annoying bell dinging as she left.
She tried to hurry up and sell the rest of her papers so that way she could get back to Roger. She ran into three carts because her head was in the clouds, once she heard an old man say, "'Sa Shame she's got 'er head in da clouds." She almost argued with him, but decided not to, she didn't want anything to ruin her day. She just wanted it to be closer to three o'clock.
While she was selling she somehow ended up on the other side of town and had to run all the way back to the restaurant. She silently prayed that she didn't look sweaty, or messy. She stopped in front of the window to look at her reflection, she wasn't sweating too terribly and her hair and clothes looked alright. She had never thought of herself as pretty, just average or plain looking, but now she hoped she looked alright. Mimi was just about to open the door when Roger came out and crashed into her, she almost fell over, but he grabbed her shoulders to keep her from falling.
"Oh! Sorry, are you okay?"
Mimi nodded, her green eyes staring up into his hazel, she noted the color and smiled. "Yeah, I'm fine. Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Are you okay?"
Roger grinned and looked her straight in the eyes. Beautiful green. "I'm great now.." He smirked slightly, knowing he sounded like he was flirting. "So, where do ya wanna go?" He asked causally. His mind was racing a million miles a second. How could he have been so extreme with his actions. This was one of the reasons he always got hurt. He trusted anyone with his heart or his friendship. He only hoped this girl was worth his trust. He realized how rash his actions had been. Asking a random girl out, not even knowing a thing about her.
He started to stroll down the street causally, glancing quickly at the girl next to him. He brought his gaze back to the road, not wanting to appear as though he was staring. "So, tell me about yourself," He shoved his hands in his pockets and sniffed.

"I'm great now.."
Mimi smiled, not fully knowing if he was flirting or not. She never could tell.
"So, where do ya wanna go?"
She shrugged, "Anywhere's fine with me." She smiled at him. Mimi didn't care where they would go, she was just happy to be with him. She put her hands into her pockets, thoughts racing through her head. She's never felt like this before, was she falling for him? Were they just going to be friends? Is this considered a date? She didn't know, she tried her best to get her mind to calm down, but everytime she'd look over at him she would smile, her heart would pound and her mind would race.
"So, tell me about yourself,"
"Darn," She thought. It was way too early for her to tell him where she came from, she couldn't trust anybody like that straight off the bat. Trust had to grow. She sighed, "Well uh, I'm a newsie." She said with a laugh, "And I like to perform...me and my friend, Star, we like to perform together. Um, we're going to be singin' at Irving Hall sometime. I'll let you know when if you'd like to come see us." She said with a smile.

He nodded and turned down a street so they were headed to the park. He hadn't really had time to plan anything amazing, and he figured it would be nice to just talk. He wanted to build up a relationship with her, not rush into it.
He noticed her hesitation and mentally kicked himself. He hadn't wanted to sound nosy, just making conversation. He supposed it was a little early to be giving out such personal information. He smiled slightly as she told him about herself. Realization rung through his mind as she mentioned Star. "Ah, I have heard of Star. I hear her name being thrown around at the DO every so often." He really didn't sell papers that much, just every so often, so he never made friends with the newsies. Quickly glancing over at the girl next to him, he wished he had.
He grinned and nodded, "Defiantly. You will have to let me know," His voice faltered slightly at her smile. She was very pretty and he had never gotten this much attention from a girl like her. Well, he might have, but he never returned it.

"Ah, I have heard of Star. I hear her name being thrown around at the DO every so often."
Mimi smiled, "I've known Star for a few years now." She paused, "So you sell for Bronx then?" She asked. She never sold the evening edition, so she wouldn't know.
"Defiantly. You will have to let me know."
She nodded, "Yeah, I'll let you know. I bet it'll be sometime soon." She studied the clouds for a minute. "So, I told you about me, what about you?" She asked.

"So you sell for Bronx then?"
He nodded and sighed slightly, "Just when I need the money...ya know how that is?" It sorta sounded like a question, because he didn't want to affend her. He realized that some people are touchy about money and such.
"So, I told you about me, what about you?"
He chuckled lightly, "Uh, I work at Johnson's, as you know," He glanced at her and smirked. "I am just trying to get back on my feet right now.." He trailed off slightly, realizing he was bringing up a sensitive subject. Ever since he left his parents, he has not opened up to many people, therefore having little to none friends. He has never talked about it to anyone before.
