It was downpouring.
Sling shoved her way into the lodging house, looking more than a little irritated at the rain. It was hard enough to sell papers being a girl. It was even harder selling papers being a girl in Brooklyn. But add a downpour that had been lasting all day to that particular problem, and you've got yourself a downright issue. She ran a hand through her wet hair as she closed the door behind her, taking a deep breath to calm herself. She hadn't done nearly as well selling today, and it seemed that she wasn't going to have enough for dinner if she wanted enough money to be able to sleep in the lodging house that night.
She slumped down on a chair, looking altogether miserable. She reached under it, pulling out the book she'd been working on and opening it, ignoring the fact that her hair was steadily dripping water onto the pages. After a few minutes of this, she grunted in frustration, standing and setting the book down, flipping her head over and squeezing the excess water out of it, flipping it back, a surly expression still on her face. She sat once more, tucking a leg beneath her as she did, returning to her book, though she knew it was a hopeless case. She only had a limited knowledge of how to read, and attempting to teach herself simply wasn't working.
Clearly, it was destined to be a terrible day.

Charity had napped most of the afternoon, she was to be over in Manhattan shortly after dinner, there was a late evening show tonight and she was to be a part of it. The rain pouding against the window she slept near had soothed her into a deep sleep, with a soft smile on her lips. Rain had always been sometihng she had enjoyed, it always put her into a calm. It was easy to fall asleep in the afternoons in the Lodging House, most everyone else was out and about selling as usuall, but the moment they started to return home you would know.
Today was no exeption. Her eyes squeezed closed tightly as she heard the foot steps bounding around down stairs and a few arguments between the boys. There was no doubt in her mind that everyone would be pretty grumpy due to selling in the rain. Slowly her eyes opened and she let out a soft little yawn, her brown hair was sprawled out around her as she stretched a little before sitting up.
Glancing around the dimly lit room for a moment, Chairty got up off the bed, straightening out her skirt and running her fingers through her shoulder length dark brown hair. there was no doubt in her mind that she would catch some sort of flack as per usuall from the guys and even at times from the few girls that were there. But there was always one face that never seemed to say anything fowl towards her. Slingshot.
Grinning a little, she headed out of the room and down the stairs into the loby, squinting a little as she looked for any sign of Sling. When her eyes fell upon her, she smiled a little and hurried over. " Hey you." She said in a slightly sing songish voice as she leaned against the back of the chair she was sitting in.

Sling looked up with a grin as Charity entered the room and made her way over to her. Charity was one of the few good female friends that SlingShot had, and the only one who wasn't a newsie. She considered the performer her best friend, and was glad that she lived in the Lodging House, despite the fact that she wasn't a newsie.
She stowed her book back under the couch, abandoning that venture for the moment. It was more important to spend some time wtih Charity. "Hey," she said with a grin, tucking hair behind her ears and turning around in the chair so she could look at her friend. "Got a show tonight?" Maybe she'd go and watch. She didnt' exactly have anything better to do, and she loved seeing Charity perform.

The little smile on her lips grew as Sling turned to face her. It was always good to see her, it made most of her worries and woes of the day fade away, and she could just spend quality time with her girls. Though Sling was really the only girl friend she had, that didn't really matter. It was still nice to see a friendly face, that wasn't looking over her entire body.
" Yeah, its a late night one, so I might just stay at the hall over night, unless a few of the boys show up then I'll just head home with them." She shrugged a little. Charity hated to walk home late at night from her performances, she had had a few run ins with some goons a few times. " What are you going to get up to tonight Sling?" She grinned at her friend. Sling was always getting up to something or other, and Charity loved it.

SlingShot grinned and leaned back slightly, stretching out her back, stiff from sitting still for too long. "Ah, I don't have any plans." Which really was a new one for her, because SlingShot was definitely always getting up to something. Which tended to anger Spot on an almost daily basis. But she wouldn't have her life any other way.
"Actually, I'm thinking about coming to see your show. Better than sitting around this dump all night," she responded with a smirk. Charity knew that she didn't mean that, though. Brooklyn was the only home Sling had ever had, and referring to it as a dump was usually just something she did when she was really bored, like now, or when she was trying to irritate Spot. Calling Brooklyn a dump usually did the trick. "You up for a rowdy audience?"

((Hope you guys don't mind me joining in))
Jinks entered the brooklyn lodging house. She was bored and all her newsies where out still selling. Since Brooklyn was the closest to Staten Island she desided to drop in.
She knew some of the Brooklyn newsies, okay she knows none of the Brooklyn newsies but she was hoping that she could. "Hi," she said as she saw two girls. "Um if I'm interuptin somethin then I'll just go." said Jinks with a smile.

Sling glanced from Charity to Jinks as the Statan Island leader entered the lodging house. "Hey there, Jinks," she greeted with a grin. "Nah, you ain't inturruptin'. We was just talkin' about heading over to Medda's for da night."
She gestured towards a nearby chair. "Take a load off." She paused for a moment, still smiling. "What brings ya ta Brooks this fine aftanoon?"

Jinks smiled at SlingShot she was almost the only girl in Brooklyn nice to her. She doesn't know why but everyone hates her. Maybe because she's the leader of Staten Island or that she's Jack's sister but one thing for sure they don't like her.
Jinsk took a seat on the chair. "Nothin really just was takin a walk and got stuck in some trouble out side so I just came in here untill the police cools off." she said and smirked. "I think goin to Medda's is a fine idea. Better than this place." she added and smirked again.

Sling couldn't help but grin at Jinks. She didn't know why people didn't like the girl, she didn't mind her at all. However, she understood the leaders better than many other newsies, considering her close relationship with Spot. She grinned, lifting her feet and resting them on the table in front of them, crossing them at the ankles.
"Ah. Well, if you're looking for trouble, it's always found in Brooklyn," she said with a laugh. It was more than true. She smirked. "Ah, only I can get away with insulting Brooklyn, Jinks," she teased the other girl. They all poked fun at each other's turfs, and none of them could really help it. It was a pride thing, but Brooklyn probably had more pride than the others.

"Ah. Well, if you're looking for trouble, it's always found in Brooklyn,"
"Yea true," said Jinks "Aw common Slingshot I love insultin dis place." she said and smiled. "Plus it's more fun when Puppy dog is around." she said.
Puppy dog is what she calls Spot sometimes. He hates it but she loves it.
